One Day At A Time

My goal this morning was to finish another Masters practice in its entirety and get in a good warm-up beforehand. I accomplshed both today! I got to San Mateo Athletics Club (SMAC) where I swim before they opened at 5:30 AM. I was in the pool by 5:42 AM and started doing 500 yards. During this morning’s workout, I was feeling some stress of having to do this *every* time I swim Masters. Not the 500 yards as that’s easy, but of pushing myself to get in a good warm-up and then trying my darnest to finish Cindy’s morning sets. I snapped myself out of it by telling myself to not look at doing this for the next 9+ months, but instead to just take it one day at a time. Focus on doing that today and don’t think about doing it tomorrow or any other time, just focus on today. I was able to relax and enjoy the rest of this morning’s swim.

I did a total of 4150 yards this morning (swimming every last yard of the Masters workout) in 105 minutes. This takes a little longer than if I was swimming by myself since I try to be a good lane leader and wait for my lanemates to come in before starting the next set/exercise. I also try to do a 10 second rest inbetween, which if it’s not going to be nicely on a XX:X0 for 10 seconds, I’ll wait until the next XX:X0 afterwards so I’m getting at least a 10 seconds rest. This actually takes some effort since I naturally just want to take right off again after coming in from a set.

I also started working on my hydration. Jamie said to drink 250 mL every 20 minutes, which is something I have to consciously think of doing. I will dehydrate myself and not care or notice in the pool, but over 11 miles, I will notice so I should prevent that before I seriously harm myself.
